If you had to start over with $100k, no education, and no credentials, no wife, no kids, what would you do to become financially secure in Los Angeles, CA?

Love what you do. Get your real estate licence. Dedicate your life to making money Don't get married Don't have kids. Money can't buy happiness but it can rent more happiness than any one individual can ever immagine.

There's a saying "It's a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together." Or "do what you love and you don't work a day in your life." The thing about the above quotes is that you still have to work. I'm a lazy guy so let's try something different. How do you define a successful woman? A woman who makes more money than her man can spend. How do you define a successful man? A man who can find such a woman. Find a sugar mama and you're set. That's what I would do if I were to start all over again. :>) Kidding aside, I like Joe's idea. I suggest whatever you decide to do, be good at it and find your own niche. That's where you reap the rewards. Best of luck.

I cannot give you advice on your area, but you have some sharp folks in that area commenting already. I love the house hack a 4 plex idea. You could even rent rooms in your unit to maximize your income for awhile. If I was starting over again I would start sooner and do more. Doing it alone is hard. As to the mate situation all I can say is fins someone who you admire their character not how they look or dress. I am very unqualified to give love advice. Good Luck in what ever path you choose.

Saw this proverb recently, and it seems applicable. "The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is now." I guess I've just been wanting to use that... Lol

I have a wife, three kids, work 4 days a month as a medic per-diem, little money, no credentials and four properties... working on more. We are looking to be out of the rat race in 3-6 months. We have recently traveled to Belize, Puerto Rico, Denver, Hawaii, and have a trip planned to Disneyland. I would not change a thing! It can be done with the right partner and it can be done with kids! Love what you do, do it for the people you love, and try to legitimately help others along the way and you will do just fine!

According to my mortgage broker, multi families get a bump up in interest rate. So, it would have probably been more like 4%. _tear_

Financially secure? Hmm...that's totally different from having financial freedom. Hmm...

You have a point Minh. If you are set on finding a partner anyone can chose who they fall in love with. You need a partner that is not going to hold you back if you have goals. If making money is your passion, and you are driven, it will interfere with relationships. That is the nature of the type of personality. Find someone with money or the same passion to make money. Be very carful how you structure your financial relationship as marriages have a tendency to fail, as with many partnerships, and you need to protect yourself. You do not want to have to start all over when you do move on. I know this is not about investment choices but starting over with a clean slate is a much bigger subject than simply where do I put my money. Every decision impacts your financial future.
