Should I get a Real Estate Agent license?

Question

Hi,

I want to become a real estate investor and/or someday own a real estate business. Should I get a real estate agent license? I understand that once you pass the exam you have to have a broker sponsor you, however I currently work a full time job and I am not sure if anyone will sponsor me working part-time or if I would be able to sell houses working part-time.

Hi Patrice Boenzi the 75 hour required course in my state is about $350 and I believe the certification exam is about $50 on top of that. I'm not sure how much the fees are to be sponsored by a broker, so I'll have to look into that. thanks!

Hi @Brett Snodgrass I am looking to buy and hold for now. I currently own a rental property and would like to buy another one in the near future. I'm hoping that with a real estate license I can represent myself and receive a commission. In my state, I need to be a sales agent for a couple of years before I can become a broker, and start up my own realty business.

Who wants to waste time like that! Find people who have projects they think are worthwhile and the only holdup is finding the the money to complete their project! Investigate their project then find someone who is looking to back such a project put them in touch with each other for a small fee! Every body wins! I would most defenitely say YES. However, becoming a real estate agent is not for everyone. I would recommend networking with real estate agents and learning the in and out of the business.

I am an agent. My advice is talk to a few brokers and educate yourself on training available and fees. How much does the class cost? My start-up costs where probably around 2,000 with class, fees, marketing material etc
