Out of state buy and hold

Curious if anyone has any experience in absentee buy and hold SF rentals with a turn key management company? Also interested in Chicago market as we live in Florida but my wife's family is in Illinois. We travel up north annually so would make for a nice write off, lol. Any input helps, thanks!
