Aspiring real estate investor in Boston area

Hey BiggerPockets, I am 21 years old from the Boston area and am extremely motivated to becoming a real estate investor here in Boston. I have gotten a lot of feedback from many different people about not investing in Boston because of the high costs. But I am determined to make it work no matter what kind of different strategies it takes, (if the numbers make sense). One way I want to step foot in the game is by offering my time helping any local investors in my area with anything they need. I really just want to learn as much as I can and absorb real life experience from someone already doing what I want to do. By offering my services I just want to be able to intake as much information as I can from people already doing what I am interested in so I can gain the confidence I need to do it myself. All the books in the world won't get me over the hump of doing it out my own and starting off. Do you guys have any suggestions on how I should get over the hump of starting off my real estate investing career. I do not want to get stuck over educating myself and find myself not ever doing my first deal. Any and all advice is very much appreciated ! Thank you in advance
