Copy of Photo ID - Do I need it, how do I get it?

The book we are reading says to get a copy of the potential renters photo id.

1. Do you really need this? Why, if they are filling out an application its all on there, right?

2. If you do, how do you get it if you don't have a copier on the property and you don't have an office?  I would think taking a picture of it with your phone would not be something the renter would want us to do.

Thanks,

@Jeff Howard

When I receive the application I need to have a copy of their license.  This is part of the background check.   Have them bring a copy with them.  Take a picture with your phone.  Whatever it takes.  Its your property you need to protect it.  I also require the application fee in cash, money order, cashiers check etc.  Going through the vetting process is standard.  If you get push back I think that's a red flag.

Good Luck.
