Where should I start?

I want to get into investing, multifamily rentals and also a IRA for retirement, but I really have no idea where to start. I'm 36 and I have about $1050 a month in bills, which also includes a $300 a month student loan payment (7% Interest). I currently have about $6k saved in a investment account. Where should I start?
