New Agent Starting Out Questions

Jessica Cohen
Posted

Hi all!

I live in Oregon and just finished my required pre licensing education hours and am about to take my licensing test. I am currently employed but want to transition into Real Estate in the coming months.

Here's the kicker though... I am currently pregnant! I'm very excited, and can't wait to meet my daughter, who is due in early April, but needless to say, pregnancy makes the process of transition careers even more complicated than it already is.

I guess my question is, do you think hiring brokerages, upon discovering that I'm pregnant, will be less interested in hiring me? I would want to work right up until the pregnancy, take a couple of months off, and then start up working again.

I am just so nervous to even start reaching out to local brokerages in fear that they may reject me because I'm pregnant, and then I'll have to awkwardly reapply many months later.

Any one out there with insight into my situation?

I have done a lot of research, and I am well aware this path won't be easy, and it will take a lot of adjusting, especially with a kiddo on the way, but I'm determined to earn more for my daughter. I know the statistics on how high the turn over rate is in real estate, but I believe in myself. Luckily my partner has a fairly flexible careeer and can often work from home, so I really feel like us both working will work out.

With appreciation,
Jess
