I have another small hobby (breeding ball pythons) that I have a big passion for that I am growing up into a business.  One of the people I look up to in that business told me about REI and ever since then, I have been researching and networking all I can.  My goal is to create a large stream of income through a buy and hold portfolio of commercial properties so that I can work on both REI and my small business full time down the road.  :)

@Shane C. Downs it started when I saw my college landlord charging high rent by the room and thought “what a smart guy!”

Went on to buy a foreclosed house on Hubzu that would work as a rental but that I would live in with my wife for time being.

Jumped in with our first cash flow rental purchase 6 months after!

Downs  -  Spent my entire life doing self employed arbitrage.  Started out making bookmarks and selling them to my dentist/doctors/friends moms.  That lead to consumer electronics, and then cars. The next logical step in the progression was houses.  Anything sounded better than using my degree to sit behind a desk being forced to make phone calls all day long

I have a background in default mortgage servicing for the big lenders. I read Rich Dad, Poor Dad and wanted to start investing more after I started with my first rental property. Then I thought that I could help homeowners that are facing foreclosure by offering them to buy their house or assist with negotiating with their lenders. It seemed like a perfect fit given my knowledge of mortgage servicing.

My WHY is for my young family!

We are expecting a baby soon and I want to be able to provide the best life for my daughter and wife.

Being a young professional and already feeling the effects of being stuck in the “rat race”, I am so motivated to become successful.

Real Estate Investing is the best tool to get me to the ultimate goal of financial freedom and being able to spend all lots of quality time with family.

I already work in the facilities /property management world so figured if I have to deal with the headaches that come with it why not try to make the financial upside unlimited vs capped salary. Plus stock market dividend at my current income/savings level isn’t that exciting.

I echo @Joe Sadusky!

I got primarily got involved in RE because I was motivated to find something beyond number crunching in a cubical. I worked as an analyst for REIT and was already doing the modeling for deals so I thought "why not do this for myself" and here I am.

Also, one thing I recently realized after starting a few non-real estate related companies, I like real estate because every property is different and requires a different perspective. It takes creativity, much like running a startup.
