Which country to invest in ?

Question

Hey guys ! I’m very new in REI, I just read real estate books and spend lot of times on you tube and BP. I can’t wait to invest in a first property but I don’t know which country to invest in. I’m french and I leave in Australia so I can invest in Europe and Oceania easily. But I keep comparing countries and I don’t know where is the best to invest in. If you got tips, ideas, exemples or experience,  i will be happy to read it. Thank you all !

Although there are many parameters to consider, I'd suggest you look at the tax implications of a purchase in the country of your (potential) choice. Assuming your first buy is going to be at a reasonable price point, you don't want to create a tax headache every year for the foreseeable future if the income/ROI is not large enough. Definitely pick a market you know to start with. If you know good books covering tax implications for REI abroad, please let me know.

Regarding specific countries, US has been good to me but is currently relatively overpriced in my area. France is a bit tricky but there is good potential if you have enough time to understand the rules. Great interest rates, rehab cost part of the mortgage but the french government takes a lot of your income. There is a BP thread called "Anyone buying in France"...

Hi Eva

I don't have any experience with Europe so I can't help there but I can tell you that both US and Australia have some great benefits but are both very different markets.  I find the cashflow and affordability of the US market in some areas, great but the growth you can get in Australia is excellent, even in a softening market

Both have their pros and cons so need to look carefully into the right areas first.  It will certainly help to find someone in the market your looking at to assist you.  Reach out if I can help or if you want any contacts or referrals.
