Curious how some of y’all got your start in real estate?  Were you an Acquisition Manager under a successful investor?  Did you have a mentor?  Self taught?

Would you recommend being an acquisition manager under a successful investor to learn the basics of real estate investing?

I had just lost my job in the 2002 tech.bomb. I was technically unemployed. My dad suggested I get my RE license to come help him with the tech side of his business. In my first year, before I even had income, I discovered a really cheap property on the MLS. It was a mobile home on owned land in a manufactured home community. I had no idea what I was doing and I was basically unemployed but I found a bank to give me a custom construction loan on it anyhow. I bought the thing, got rid of the old one and then installed a brand new one and sold it. The project took about 6 months start to finish and I netted about $10k and maybe some gray hairs at the tender age of 23.
