How exactly should I go about starting out?

Hello, 
I'm a very young and driven college student. I want to start investing in real estate but I am so lost as to how to go about it. I know it will be hard work, and I need to educate myself. However I would just like to know how some of you got started, how hard it was, and also how long it took to start really seeing a profit. I am willing to put in the hard work, research, and learn. Thank you.

Thanks a lot Mr. Gulley. I am Political Science major just finishing my 2nd year. I plan on staying in college but I will definitely look into taking those courses. I also want to get a RE license on my free time, maybe this summer. Will that benefit me?

You can make RE easier down the road by staying in college IMO, depends on your major. I'd suggest you take a RE class, business law and a finance course, none will hurt you.

Come out thinking how to work smarter not harder, I have always hated to sweat unless it was from recreational activities.

Learn to recognize deals by the property not by a system. If you take that direction of seeing potential in a property from various aspects you're going to be better of than say trying to learn how to wholesale or flip options. RE is an ever changing business and you need to be flexible and roll with the punches as markets change. Good luck...
