First Home vs. First Rental Property

Hello BiggerPockets Forum!

I am making my way through Brandon Turner's "The Book on Rental Property Investing" and was looking for some advice on which should take priority...investing in my first rental property or purchasing my first home. I still currently live with my parents, however, my girlfriend and I just got engaged and are looking to move out. Obviously I have considered House Hacking as a strategy but I am trying to create a backup plan in the case where my fiancé is not okay with house hacking. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
