How much can $5000 be stretched in Edmonton?

Hi guys, heres the scenario:

I live in Edmonton, Alberta and I'm a 21 year old finishing up my first year in college and working part-time (unfortunately thats the only option for college students it seems). I have been told by my credit card company (Bank of Montreal Mosaic Mastercard) that I have a lot of fame with them because I always pay my bills ahead of time and usually I round up and pay more then what I owe. I Have $5000 in investments that can easily be recovered and I will be getting a summer job (not sure where a this point, trying to get an accounting internship).

Is there any way I can get in on the booming economy without dropping out of school and becoming a tradesman?
