Starting in the Real Estate Community

I have been wanting to start a career in Real Estate for a few years now.  My biggest problem is finding where to start, I have been trying to get a job as an Assistant Property Manager because I figured it might be a good place to start, but all of my schooling and work experience has been centered around higher level math i.e. Calculus and the only thing that I have under my belt as far as management is concerned is around 1.5 years as a manager in the food industry.  Where should I start?  And are there better options other than Property management that I should be looking into.
