Hey guys I’ve been a waitress my entire adult life.. I’m 33 now and only have a HS education. My biggest set back is how insecure I am about having to approach more educated people.. how would I interact or even sell anything.. is real estate for anyone?
The easiest way to set yourself up to fail is to think you will...LOL. Not having gone to college is really no reason you couldn't make it in real estate. I am not sure why you believe home sellers and buyers are all "educated", anyone from any walk of life can own a home. How do you even identify an "educated" person to get insecure about talking to them? Most knowledge doesn't come from books, it comes from living life. I think you should stop worrying about your lack of education or your career history. This is all in your head. If you are able to get clients, understand the market and industry, learn to finesse a real estate transaction, and effectively help people reach their home sales goals smoothly, no one will care about what you did before.
Tons of the best agents didn't go to college (or didn't pay attention in college). It's not a barrier at all. These days, newer agents who join teams or training-intensive brokerages are able to scale into production must faster. Real estate is all about relationships. If you are good (or can get good) at building relationships, you can become a good agent with the right mentor. I would actually disagree though with what was said above. In real estate, you can not "fake it until you make it," because if you do that you will open yourself up to liability. Even if only a figure of speech, in real estate new agents who do well do so because they learn like a sponge and hustle to be better every day. And they are coachable.
