Buying 1st Rental Property

Hello everyone! I’m Aryel, a 21 year old wanting to get starting in real estate investing but I am have problems starting. I recently applied for my first property and didn’t get approved Bc of my debt to income ratio. How else can I do it? Do I have to wait to pay it down to buy my first property?
