Future Investor (Chicago)

Hey BP community, I’m a 26 year old from Chicago currently knocking off debts and saving 10% of my monthly income to begin my future in Real Estate investing!

I began looking into Real Estate after first reading Rich Dad Poor Dad last summer during the COVID-19 quarantine, which completely changed my mindset and led me to dive deeper into financial literacy along with real estate investing. So far I’ve read 4 books published by Bigger Pockets or their members and am gaining a lot of insight into which direction I wanna go when I finally do take that leap into investing.

My main reason for this post here, is to connect with current investors and get a little face-to-face or keyboard-to-keyboard insight that provides a little more answering to some of my questions as well as networking with successful individuals in the community. The biggest thing for me now is money, which as I said above I’m knocking off debts and saving to invest, but it seems like I’ll never get there because of some bad decisions I made when I was younger to dive me deep into debt, along with having no college education, leaving me to not really able to get a job that pays anymore than 18-20 an hour. My niche I wanna pursue will be house hacking and I’m looking to take a stab at 2-3 unit buildings. I’ve got a lot more books I’m going to read up on and will be looking for seminars to attend in my area as well as heading to a bank just to ask questions about loans, taxes, and how they work.

It was pretty scary to type out this first post but I’m hoping to get some great feedback and connect with bright individuals!

Thanks!

@Paul De Luca thanks for the tag!

@Account Closed welcome to BP!  Well with posting anyway :)  Agreed with Paul, your first step is getting a preapproval done so that you know exactly where you stand.  Many times, people think they aren't ready yet, but they are already well-qualified.  Other times people think they are good to go, but are not.  And yes, there is a HUGE difference between an order-taking loan officer and one who specializes in working with investors, house hacking, and setting you up for future success.  Feel free to reach out and PM me if you want to discuss your situation and strategy.
