Hi Everyone,

Looking to purchase my first duplex in Virginia Beach, Va. I'm just curious on what type of insurance should I get if I will be house hacking one side of the property. Should I get homeowners or landlord Insurance. Any help is good help. Thanks!

Michael,

If you will be owning & occupying the house then the proper form is normally a Homeowners policy.  When getting quotes be sure to mention that you will also be renting part of your unit if that is the case.  Some Insurance carriers will only write single family homes but most will do 1 - 4 family homes under the Homeowners form.  I usually recommend talking to your agent about the "Personal Injury Liability" endorsement (protects against Liable, Slander, wrongful entry, etc.).
