Flipping Shows on TV. It's real or is it?

Now that's a shame... I wasn't a fan of his, but he was certainly better than the Montelongo group from TX.  I think most of us realize the reality of a 'Reality TV' show where certain aspects may be staged, like a conversation about what would work and what wouldn't, and the 'deadlines' they miraculously pull off everytime...  But hearing how blatantly false the entire thing was is a downer.

However, I know they're not the only ones who do this.  I was nearly on Property Ladder early last year, and know a home inspector who actually *was* on an episode here in Orlando... but he was actually used as a potential 'buyer' pointing a couple of flaws as he walked through the home.

Maybe they could try a disclaimer before and after the shows: "Statistics, Balance Sheets, and Profits may appear closer to ideal than reality.  Flipping homes may or may not cause your financial ruin.  Good luck duplicating these results."   :wink:

The more I watch those shows like the Real Deal the more I hate them. They are like 5% about rehabbing houses and 95% manufactured drama and personalities.  They zip through anything about rehab stuff and dwell on things like whether theres a ghost in the basement, or how they are going to get by without the boss while he goes off for the week with his kids.  Then they tell you what the  profit is going to be, based on the list price and you never know what it actually sold for.  If they would have a rehab show that was done more like This Old House, it might actually be worth watching.

Don't let that friendly redneck accent fool you, "The real deal" is also staged somewhat. I remember in one episode (when those same guys were on their old show) there was a side-drama about whether or not they should do a deck in the back yard of a small rehab house. It's not immediately obvious, but the whole 10 minute scene is staged. Then at the open house one lady announces in front of everyone "This house is just beautiful but one thing would have made it perfect: a deck" Riiiight...  It makes for good drama but when I'm watching a supposed reality TV show I want "reality"

Never liked that dude anyways..  When his show came on, I didn't watch..  He is garbage, and he carries himself like that..  He'll get beat-up before he pays any monies back..  I my-self watch " real deal " with Trademark Corp., I like them..  What I have learned from the shows are ideas on things to check, prior to buying..  JMO..

Designing issues too can be informational aswell.

Thanks for sharing this video. My question is about his realtor on the show. Now she has her own show on A & E. Shouldn't her show be taken off or her licensed revoked? I despise liars and cheats!!
I mean, we're adults and have to use our own judgment about things. However, you don't believe the show would knowingly do such a thing. They are all at fault...A&E, his realtor, Scott's landscaping, etc. This thing has my blood boiling!! Again, thanks for providing this link. We needed that!!

These shows were trying to capitalize on the real estate boom.  So many people have the fantasy of buying a wreck and fixing and flipping it.  Those of us who really do it know how tough it can be, they were just telling people what they wanted to hear.  It’s a shame that they had to do it this way.
