How can I get started in my local area?

Question

Hey, everyone! I am fairly new to real estate investing and was looking forward on any tips or advice on how I can get started in my local area. (Lufkin,Texas) I’ve been reading a couple of books and I’m looking to expand my knowledge from real investors. I’m more particularly interested in Rental Properties, House Hacking, and Single Family Houses. I appreciate all feedback! Please and thank you!

I’d suggest starting out by networking with as many other investors as possible and be an active participant in the forums.

If you haven’t already subscribed to the BiggerPockets podcasts, do that ASAP. Look for meet ups in your area (virtual), attend free webinars, start reading as much as possible on any and all topics related to investing and real estate. Use the forums to help you search for the answers to all of your questions. If you can’t find your answers, then create your own post!

Hey @Emmanuel Guerrero, welcome to the BP community!

Best advice I could give you is to continue to learn and self-educate. There is soooo much free information provided by BP alone. There are hundreds of hours of podcasts and they even have a beginner investor podcast now which is perfect for folks starting out. There are also a number of webinars and replays (if you get pro). No need to spend the dough tho - hop on youtube and just search topics you're interested in. So much free content on there too.

You're not really going to get much help from a general post like this other than "keep educating yourself" or "just get started" or "build your team" or "NETWORK!" All great advice but until you start to really understand and choose a strategy of choice that works for you, we really can't help much but give general advice.

Also, focus on getting into that investor mindset too. Read books like, Richest Man in Babylon and the Millionaire Real Estate Investor. Develop a plan for where you want to be in 5-10 years and how you're going to get there. Start setting goals and getting your head right because once things pick up, it'll be easy to get knocked off-track.
