Offer without FULL proof of funds

So I have a buyer (personal friend, reliable) that wants to submit an offer on a property without the full proof of funds in his account. He needs to make a deposit of about $10k more into his account to make this particular offer.

He tells me that once it gets accepted he will deposit the money to show proof of funds. I'm not sure where he keeps the money, but not in the bank. I have his proof of funds for about 1.5 months ago, which shows $10k less than what he wants to offer.

He is a bit hesitant to deposit $10k or more into his account, because he may be questioned he says. He was just a man that worked hard and kept most of his money with him (instead of at the bank).

What should he be concerned about when visiting the bank to make this deposit?

Thanks in advance everyone,
