Real estate is all about lifestyle.

As a real estate agent, if your client can't understand it, they can't buy it.

Why should someone buy a house?

Everyone mentions the equity, appreciation...

the strictly money focused reasons.

In my opinion, LIFESTYLE is why someone should buy a house.

If the buyer tells you, "I truly want a house in THIS neighborhood because of THIS life I would have."

...they already told you how to sell them.

Good points. The equity and appreciation numbers are important, but they rarely get someone emotionally invested enough to actually write an offer. The moment a buyer starts describing their actual daily life in a house, coffee on a specific porch, walking to a specific park, being close enough to see family more often, that's usually when they stop comparing spreadsheets and start deciding.

Christian's point about non-owners not being taught this is real too. A lot of renters have never had anyone walk them through what ownership actually changes day to day, not just the payment, so part of the job is translating "lifestyle" from a buzzword into something concrete for them.
