Is your wife's broker a listing broker for HUD ? Meaning that they are the listing agent for HUD properties. If the Broker is a HUD listing broker, then all their agents as well as there immediate family are not eligible to purchase a HUD home even as an investor

If they are not a listing agent, there are absolutely no limitations.  I have bought hundreds and represented myself(I cannot collect a commission if I represent myself) and my wife has purchased a couple with myself as the broker
