Hello BP,

I'm a new real estate agent in Oregon and would like to know any advice that other agents or professionals have for real estate agents that are just starting out. Past mistakes, things not to do, what not to forget, client interactions. Anything would be greatly appreciated!!!

Keisha,

Congratulations on starting your career in Oregon! As someone who has helped more than 700 agents begin their career, there are a few things to consider. First, if you join a brokerage how often and at what level do they provide training? Real estate agents do five things each day which makes it simple, the challenge comes in knowing how to do them effectively and doing them consistently. Agents script practice, lead generate, lead follow up, hold appointments, and negotiate contracts each day. Your brokerage needs to have a training calendar and format where that is taught consistently and not just in a 101 or beginner course. Also, if you are a solo agent you will need a mentor or a coach above and beyond the training model in the brokerage. Think about it this way. Gyms have classes with instructors however the people that get the best results have the gym membership, attend the classes, and have a trainer to hold them accountable and work with their individual needs. If we did what we were supposed to do without accountability dieting and exercise would not be a multi billion dollar industry each year. Finally, you may also consider joining a team. Most new agents are looking for three things. They are looking for administrative support, mentorship and training, and the ability to earn leads. In many models and to varying degrees, all of these services are provided by the brokerage however in a great sales team they are all provided. I hope this helps and let me know if you have any further questions. Congratulations again!
