Can you get a REA License, not pay member fees, and use it later?

Hello! My situation is that I am currently in a university that offers classes that qualify for the hours required to take the Arizona Real Estate Licensing Exam. I only need to take one more course to qualify to take the exam. I know I am going to invest in Real estate after college as I have capital saved.
My problem with getting a license is I am not sure where I'll end up after college, so if I choose to invest in another state my AZ license will be useless for my investing. I also do not want to pay the fees to maintain the license such as brokerage fees, membership dues etc. if I am not going to use it.
My question is once I have a license, are there fees that I have to pay no matter what in order to maintain it? Could I get the license, not pay for any annual fees, but then use the license a few years later if I come back to Arizona? or would the license be revoked if I don't use it?
Thank you!

Hey Rand,
Great questions.
In NY, your license cannot be issued unless you have a broker to sponsor your license. In order for that broker to sponsor you, they typically require you to pay some sort of monthly fee - i.e. desk fee or technology fee.
I am not sure how it works in other states however.
Best of luck to you moving forward!

@Rand Knutson A friend of mine in Arizona has a Brokerage designed for people like you. You can get a license, hang your license with his Brokerage, pay very minimal fees and keep your license. You can also still make referral fees on your own deals or others you refer out. What you don't have to pay is approximately $1000 per year to be a member of the Associations and or the MLS.
It might be a perfect fit for your needs.

Im in Texas, if you dont plan on using it yet you do not need a sponsorship but tour license is in inactive status. Now if you plan to be compensated and from side hustle example referral need to have active license and sponsored by a broker. Find a broker that does not have monthly fee for membership with them. The one that im considering to join is just transaction basis. Therefore no pressure.

Will your university courses qualify you to take the RE exam in another state in the future? If so I'd take the classes and keep ahold of your transcripts for when that day comes.

@Rand Knutson . Go straight to the source - the AZ Real Estate Commission (or whatever it may be called in AZ) and ask your question to get the most straightforward answer to your questions.
