I am in the process of getting my real estate license. I would like to get some advice from some experienced agents.

How did you determine what company to work for? What are some questions you asked when being interviewed?

Being new to real estate, training is really important. Besides being trained by the company, what is the best way to get some hands on training?

Hi @Kim Ferdin, First of all, I think it would help people to know what city and state you are in to advise you. The other thing that I would mention is that every single brokerage that touts training basically teaches you the same stuff...call friends and family, call FSBOs (for sale by owner), and expired leads, etc. The problem is that everyone does that, so each FSBO and expired lead gets so many calls they get annoyed. My best advice would be to determine what makes you different? What sets you apart? I answered a thread long ago about my wife, who holds a real estate license. Her degree is in Interior Design, so she works with a lot of higher-end clients that buy high-end homes and them she works with them as a designer to redo the home. She has a very thriving practice. The moral of that story is to listen intently in your training about how to complete the paperwork, what the process is, compliance, etc. Once you've done that, you've got to understand what sets you apart from the masses. If you can't do that, you will probably struggle if you only do what everyone else does. With respect to who to pick, think about what they are doing for you and what they are taking. If they are giving you leads, what types of leads are they Leads can be anything from a phone number out of the phone book to a hot lead of someone looking to buy or sell right now. What are they taking? What are the splits, fees, support, etc. Certainly let the community know where you are located and perhaps people on here can help you. Good luck.
