Thoughts on EXP realty?

Hi.  Looking into starting wIth EXP.  I am

Impressed by their growth and training.

My original path was going to be KW, but I’m really intrigued by EXP.  Thoughts?

I will be part time to start

The Key is to find a brokerage where the majority of people own real estate, and make alot of money brokering it......Most brokerages dont have that.

Sounds like a pyramid scheme......JOKING, take it easy. Regardless, you need to find a brokerage that has a good environment and culture. The brokerage I joined in Columbus always is throwing around off market deals, going out together, and building each other up to do more in real estate and with the community.

This is like asking in a tech forum if you should get a Mac or a PC. All the Mac crazies are going to come out of their houses with coupon codes and affiliate links for you, if they exist. I am with eXp, but by no means an evangelist for them. I think they provide better splits, more transparency, and more options and freedom and I have worked for KW, Sotheby's and Berkshire Hathaway. But all brokerages have different fits for different people. As a part-timer, KW is tougher because they value in-person training. eXp can work for part-timers, but also you can get lost quickly in the cloud or on Workplace since we do not have standard office in most states.

@Steven Wilson, you also forgot to say we partner on things and teach each other how to rehab!

Having interviewed at a few brokerages, I have to agree with Steven though. Everyone has different learning styles and all brokerages have different environments and cultures. You need to check out each brokerage you are considering joining to see if it's a right fit for you!

I agree with @Steven Wilson. If you can find a brokerage where the goal of real estate is to start investing and you think that is the route you want to take, then a better fit would be one of these brokerages. They are a lot harder to find but surrounding yourself with like-minded people will be great in the long run. @Christopher Wilchensky

I'm a big fan of a local brokerage that fits your personality and has other agents that are successful doing what you are wanting to do yourself. I looked at ExP and believe it has it's benefits but constantly getting shilled to join under someone ultimately turned me off too much. My local brokerage is small but has been hands on and helpful when it's needed. Best of luck.

I can't speak to the EXP experience, but I know that they model after KW. KW is the largest brokerage in the US, it used to build on training and on culture, the last years it has pivoted to tech.

But a big factor is (local) people - I am lucky to be part of an increadibly KW office. But I understand not every office runs on this level. So go find out, stop by at the market center and attend a few events. You are always invited, just talk to the front desk.

Another big question is team or solo. I believe you either should be on a team or you should start a team. It is better for you and better for the clients. That's how I started: on a team as a buyers agent, then went solo for a while and finally started my own team.

EXP agents are incentiviced a lot to recruit agents, you can definitly tell and some are not very graceful about it..

As @Steven Wilson said find one that fits. I get annoyed with EXP agents. Most conversations end with them trying to recruit. Splits is a factor but you can be taking home 99% of the commission while the broker takes 1% but if you flounder like a fish it doesn't matter. Hardest part for agents is starting. SO much info out there it can be overwhelming. A broker or joining team can help. A team your split would be 50/60% but they can provide leads, training, assistants, etc. Look around, interview and find what's best
