How to find General Contractors

Question

Good afternoon everyone. I am currently living in the Capac area. At 18 I have two single family homes, And hopefully if everything goes right another one by 2/1/17 around that time frame. I need to know how to find some contractors any suggestions? The next house I do I would like to find a Fix er Uper, and I do not know how to do everything my self. Thanks for the help.

Attend local Real Estate meetings, network and ask for referrals.

Read J Scotts book on rehab. Then you can find GCs by word of mouth, usually.

Word of mouth is usually best since they are essentially being vouched for at the same time. Also you can try Thumbtack and HomeAdvisor as well but remember that contractors have to pay for those leads so be serious with your intentions before you throw out requests so you aren't wasting their time and money.

@John Rogers Very new at this whole idea and just became a Bigger Pockets Member not to long ago. Is there a way to find out if I have a local REIA around me?

The simplest way is to join your local REIA...

They will steer you toward contractors that they have used successfully, as well as steer you away from the "not so good" time and money wasters as well.

Ask people. Best way to find good work is to find someone who has seen them do good work before. If you know nobody with experience try Angie's list.
