How to find and vet a structural engineer?

Hey BP,

I need a structural engineer to take a look at a deck that is built hillside in the Hollywood Hills. I know there is a lot of information out there on finding and vetting great contractors. Does anyone have any tips on finding and vetting great structural engineers? Does anyone have any referrals for the Los Angeles area?
