water pressure dropped after installing a new shower arm

I had a shower that worked fine except the shower head was low. So I installed a new "S" shower arm and put the old head back on with teflon tape on both ends. I then had a severe drop in water pressure. With the head off, it flows fine. When the head goes back on it drops. Same head that was working fine with the old arm. Any ideas?
