@Barbara Brennan Every post has a "vote" button. If you like the response, you can vote for it. Not every post is voted on, etc. There's no rhyme or reason to them. As for the Awards, there's awards given for reaching various milestones on BP. To see your awards, click on your name and scroll down! Click link below.
