Does someone have to request a reference in order for you to be a reference?

Hi there,

I want to give props to someone on the site but don't see how I can proactively be a reference. Do they have to request that I be a reference and then I write something? Or is there a way for me to proactively be a reference?

J. Martin - yeah, that's our backup scenario.

Once we expect to receive something the level of perceived value diminishes. Compared to getting something unexpectedly which creates a memorable moment. Totally different.

But, yeah, agreed, it's a our backup.

Hey guys -

We're actually planning on completely killing off the current reference system, so don't stress it too hard -- it will be gone in about a month.  That said, once that happens, we will be looking at whether it makes sense to create a new system . . . perhaps you guys can be the brain trust on that?

Worse comes to worse, you can always send them a message, and just say, "I enjoyed your *whatever* so much, I would like to give you a reference. But I'll need you to send me the request first by clicking on my profile and requesting one."

Maybe not the answer we were looking for, but it is an answer..
