What annoys you about bigger pockets?

So I thought i'd be fun to ask this as sometimes Im reading posts and get annoyed.  Dont get me wrong, I love biggerpockets and If it wasn't for this site, i would not be even close to where I'm at right now with my real estate goals.   But anyhow, here is what annoys me about some of the posts I see on biggerpockets.

1) When reading an ad on the market place that advertises a zillow or tax appraisal value as a selling point.  Really!?

2) When reading an ad on the marketplace that advertises what the max zillow value was back in 2006 as a selling point.  (Ridiculous!)

3) When turnkey sellers offer their product and dont state the most basic of expenses like maintenance and repairs.

4) When the same negative nancy posters comment on peoples posts.  You know who you are!  I have certain names I just skip now and dont even bother reading their comments.  I dont have a paid membership so I cant block people.

What annoys you?

I agree too, your #4 is interesting and you may not even be reading my post!

My issue is with Exception ED, he's the guy that expects comments to his particular case that is broadly defined, he doesn't do any searching of his topic before posting a question that has been answered 100+ times before, he's just exceptional and deserves special attention. Might call him Entitled Ed, as he's entitled to other people's time after they already addressed his concerns, he's just special.

His brother is Lazy Larry, not only does he not put forth any effort to search for answers, he wants to be spoon fed information that is tailored to his opinions, often based on poor practices and information.

Ed's cousin is Fluffing Fred, this guy has the same family traits but is puts out bad information puffing up his strategy, probably beyond what he has actually accomplished and has unethical and illegal aspects. He really wants to be like his brother, Guru George and like him, will defend bad advice as he perceives his business at risk if he doesn't stick to his opinions, regardless of how it may effect others.

Then there is the Predatory Pete clan, investing is some twisted plan to grab any dollar they can without any concern for the ones they deal with or in advancing their position. This bunch tries to justify bad practices while suggesting they are doing those win-win deals. Some know better and don't care, others simply don't know any better and allow their ego to govern.

If there weren't so many of these types, Negative Nancy would be as motivated to call out bad apples or comment on poor advice. Her motivation is to ensure that newbies at least have a clue as to the reality of realty, what is unethical and illegal, what may lead to mistakes, problems and the loss of their money.

Some members are the type that if they see a purse snatcher on the corner grabbing granny's purse they will stop the thief, some don't get involved, some don't care, some want to know how to snatch purses as it seems profitable and pretty easy to do.

I'd say the other issues mentioned above, 1-3 are pretty much due to the lack of knowledge, that, or they are operating on the dark side.

The attitudes of posters are pretty easy to understand on BP, some see RE as a profession, some just want to operate with just enough information to grab a buck. You know who you are....   :)

    Chad, frustration = annoying.

    What's even more annoying is:

    Biggerpockets.com is not responding &

Biggerpockets.com is not responding due to a long running script.

Takes about 2 minutes to wait, scrolling down a page stops, takes more time for me to wait than to reply. If my replies are too long, then that stops too, so I'll stop here!

People who automatically assume that because a person doesn't/hasn't owned real estate that their advice can't possibly be of any value...

People who feel the need to chime in on EVERY post annoy the crap out of me.

My major complaint is the fact that as an interesting post is developing, complete with a lot of great information, a mod decides to delete the entire post thus depriving those following it a lot of great back & forth information.

The recent post regarding 1099's deadlines per se is one sorely missed example.

In the consideration of those of us who do appreciate specific information it maybe more productive (of the mod), to specifically delete the offending entry or inappropriate information.

If 'Mod forbid' it absolutely has to be deleted at least give those of us 'following the topic' a curtesy heads up so we can copy/paste the informative feedback.

    @Leonard L. I feel for ya buddy.
You should probably know that newbies (like myself) are asked kindly by the moderators of this site to introduce themselves to the community, without asking any questions, just an introduction.
I'm sure this is not always comfortable for some…maybe worth mentioning to the moderators of the site.

    Thanks for your time.

the @ mentions don't work properly when you have quoted another post; I have seen that repeatedly, and it is easy to reproduce that trouble.

    Top annoying things on BiggerPockets.....

    1. People who use initials instead of their last names

    2. Pet profile pictures

If I was selling something or providing some sort of service I would have my last name and picture. Since I'm on here for knowledge only there is no point in letting the world know how or what I invest in.

But I get where you are coming from.

    1. @Mentions - work sporadically

    2. BP Site - not mobile friendly. The dynamic menu bars don't seem to work and site is not rendered well for mobile devices

    3. BP App - I gave up on this

Overall love BP and the platform the team provides. There is always room for improvement.

@Azeez K. I agree on the whole @ thing. It works most of the time for me but I've seen it not work. Usually I close the browser and come back later and it works again.

I stopped using the app a few days after I installed it but that was when it first came out.

I haven't had issues with the site on mobile apps since they made some changes like a month or so ago.

Definitely love the site though as well.

...People who's profile picture is of their cat or dog...like @Joel A.

....... or when their profile picture gives them some sort of resemblance of a saintly angel descending from the heavens... Like @Joshua D.

... ORRR when a they use a beautiful blonde model to further exemplify their macho stature... Like @Jay Hinrichs

I am just glad you started this topic,Joel... it is great to have a place to voice what is really on our minds. Also, you have reminded me that I need to update the photo of my ugly mug. Making an appointment with the photographer tomorrow.

I see now why my posts are avoided with no responses -- MUAHA!

I will definitely agree with @Azeez K.  The mobile app causes some problems for me - cannot read messages and several other features -- doesn't keep me logged into my device-- etc

    Maybe that's @Joshua D. 's way of inferring i need a lap top instead of a bulky desktop :(

This has only happened one time but it has quickly become the most annoying part of BP. (Hopefully it is a single individual). Someone tagged me in a post and went on to explain what I meant. The explanation was not at all what I meant (I posted what I meant) and was a practice I wouldn't recommend and that was completely unnecessary for the original questioner. Post what you would like, ask questions, ask for clarifications, disagree, but refrain from interpreting others' remarks.

Oh, shot! English is my second language. Although I have been trying very hard to write better but it seems still a long way to go. I misspelled a lot in my posts. I am so sorry for annoyed your guys.  and from now on, I will do the spelling check before I send it out .

I've seen this happen quite often as well. People assume all kinds of crazy things and take what you say out of proportion. Good one!

Dang it! Totally should have been Rick!  I was trying to think of something that rhymed with realistic and all I could think of was nick.

    You rock!

I don't know how to change my title that says 'multifamily investor'  I think when I first signed up I chose what I wanted to invest in and now it looks like I'm someone that knows what they're talking about.

I did buy a mother in law and I'm converting it to a duplex, but I still don't know what I'm talking about.  So maybe make the title thing easier to understand and change.

The @ thing works pretty well, could be better.

This site has helped a lot.  Sometimes I feel like I'm just reading someone brag about themselves, otherwise all good.

I appreciate all the help I've received.

    Cheers

Well we will take that as a compliment.. That was our glamour shot 18 months ago for our RE company so that is what we look like in real life it was not 20 years old like many glamour shots of RE agents.  LOL

What annoys me the @ function annoys me. Whenever you backspace all the @ mentions go away.  Not sure why.

I don't mind the occasional misspelling, don't misspell so much that you just look lazy.

I dislike made up lingo.   House hacker ...  a phrase that should not have been coined.

Posting titles that aren't clear, everyone does it from time to time but try to think that if your title doesn't capture the essence of the issue you are going to miss a lot of great contributors reading your post.

I wish that the new forums list wasn't drowning in the new member greetings.  A testament to the growth of the site but kind of a bummer to have to skip past so many.

And, maybe it's just me, but I always crave more hard details both in posts here and in the most awesome RE podcast on the planet.  Please, please... Share the numbers, folks.  Good, bad or ugly, we can't learn without the full facts.  @Joshua D. - I'm putting you and that Brandon character on notice for the podcast. ;).  We need  1) how'd you find the deal,  2) Source of funds and interest rates, 3) purchase price and Reno budget, 4) exit price or monthly rents.

I went to a LOTS (learn on the site) that our local REIA had the other week. It was a losing deal, the guys that flipped the place lost a few grand when everything was said and done. I thought it was incredibly brave and awesome of them to share the experience with everyone. Good learning was had that day.

Would it be too much to ask for the podcasts to be about five hours long each?  Heh!

I know it's work but I wish folks would share more pictures and even addresses so we can see the results and do our own demographics and research.   I'm trying to do my part.

    Rant rant rant.  :)

    Best,

     - C

This 'debate' reminds me of a discussion we had with a neighbor in Australia, (many years ago). She was annoyed that her immigrant housekeeper didn't have an adequate comand of the English language (esp when dealing with her children). As she was going to let her go another neighbor offered the housekeeper a job. Apparently, the original employer had no idea that the housekeeper was fluent in several languages which the new employer capitalized on for the education of her own children.

I was pleasantly surprised, (when visiting in 2012), to discover that my old high school now teaches 7 languages. In my day it was French or Latin with severe repercussions if you made the slightest mistake.
