You know BiggerPockets as the source for all things Real Estate Investing - and we're going to continue to be that source.
But we're looking to spread our wings and share related content, too.
Things like Personal Finance, Productivity, Business Management - all things you can use to make your business even better.
So, are you an expert? Do you have writing skills? Do you want to see your name in lights? (Well, not lights, but as a byline on the BiggerPockets Blog.)
Thanks for the information. A lot of individuals are looking for another payday and that is not what blogging is really about. Blogging is about sharing your ideas, valuable information and resources with others who are interested in whatever it is you have an expertise in so they can learn. I write because it is a passion of mine and I like to share my knowledge. That should be the main focus for any creative writer. Anything else that comes along with writing is a bonus.
Blogging takes time and effort for a person to do. It's not out of the question to get paid for one's work. Especially when another site or business (bigger pockets) gets to benefit from it. You like to write because it's a passion. Others write because that's literally how they put food on the table.
Are you offering any pay? If not, sorry, but if the only compensation is seeing my name in lights won't allow me to buy milk and eggs down at my local Safeway.
Mindy is only doing what any savvy investor would do. Acquire something ( writing services ) by paying as little as possible. Some people are willing to give away their skills and talents for free . I say shame on them, but kudos to Mindy for having the guts to try to tap into those who don't value their own time and skills.
Hi @Mindy Jensen. I submitted an application. I’m not a GREAT writer but I’m detail oriented and very enthusiastic about real estate. That comes through in everything I do.
In exchange for delivering articles with great content I would like a chance to network with some members of the team at BP and grow my network within the community. I may not the most qualified applicant but I more than make up for that with my constant search for knowledge.
@Jim K. I think a contractors mindset , to the view of an investor, could open up the realities of what must happen to get from point "A" to point "B"on a deal. In this business. Its seems general contractors are the preverbal punching bag as to what Detroit is too investing. Sorry, you can enjoy the pain of the Flipping/Rehab experience , or you can pay to avoid it. It's even more surprising how many people are attracted to this experience as a means of catharsis to escape the stress of there w-2 grind. Unfortunately, when it's your career... you go to blogs and social media as a form of catharsis.
In this appropriate context, I are reflecting on 1,753,597 just being an insanely hilarious number.
And on a related note, here's another example of a core principle of what financial independence is all about. The rich do not work for money -- Kiyosaki's most basic point. They work for their own experience, they work for their own investments, they work to build their contact base, they work for charity. The rich refuse to wage-slave for anyone for any amount of money.
This whole month has been a thunderous confirmation of this foundational concept for me, for personal reasons that I've been reflecting on every single day. And then along pops up something like this, and I'm just looking at it and wondering how and why the world conspired to come up with an example of the wage-slave mindset that's just so incredibly spot on.
Hi Mindy, I’m new to the group and I am interested in being more involved. I would love to contribute. This will be a great opportunity to meet others within the platform.

BP has plenty of money that they could easily pay for blogging if they wanted to, but that creates a content and conflict of interest problem - is the blog post content worthwhile or is it just a paid advertisement? And for someone with no exposure or experience, blogging here *could* be a pathway for them to get paid, or leverage the experience into getting paid, in some other fashion. I've been a musician all my life and have heard the "I can't pay, but I can give you exposure" argument forever, to which we usually reply: "People die from exposure". BUT, the places that have wanted to give my band and I "exposure" over time were the equivalent of "Joe's real estate happy place" website; if Radio City Music Hall or the Bluebird Cafe wanted to give me exposure I would take it in a second.
I would be interested if I am compensated. In fact I would be willing to do some investigative real estate journalism in my area (Florence, SC) as well as document my own experiences as a real estate investor.
Hey Mindy, I submitted. While it would likely seem obvious based on my blog, as there is no option for adding a note during the submission process, I've owned several businesses over the past 15 years. I am interested in approaching this from the standpoint of a newbie who is trying to use real estate both to diversify with something a bit more stable from my day job (we own retail stores) and ultimately find more balance in life.
To those upset about the lack of compensation, blogging and speaking means different things to different people at different times. I write and speak for free and not (though not as often as I'd like) depending on context. Writing helps me organize my thoughts and hone my message. In particular writing on outlets with large readerships that are not my own, in theory, raises my profile so that I can make more writing and speaking for myself. Like most people transitioning from full time business ownership and operations to speaking and consulting, I find value in just doing the work. The more I write or put keynotes together I find that I can with more clarity and efficiency. I welcome the opportunity to use my experience and offer help where I can.
@Mindy Jensen Just submitted my info. Manage over 70 Airbnbs as an investor and would love to help share what I have learned with the BiggerPockets community.
I hope people understand that Mindy Jensen is not Biggerpockets. She is an employee at the end of the day and should not be attacked or critized regarding the way Biggerpockets runs its business.
I have followed Biggerpockets off and on now for quite a few years. People can jump in and correct me if I'm wrong. Biggerpockets started off as a place for people, mostly amateurs, to post questions, problems, etc. and have an open community help, comment, and encourage others in Real Estate.
I do understand the sentiment that some of you want to get paid or at the very least own what you write. Maybe, just maybe, some of you believe BP will have better content and/or more relavent information, which you are probably right. I get it, as a Certified Financial Planner and a tax advisor I've seen posts that have made me cringe. At the end of the day, Biggerpockets is not the place for you to blog.
Biggerpockets is a community blog site which provides free content because people are willing to share. If you want to get paid, find a place that will pay you.
@Mindy Jensen on a slight tangent, but sort of related note, what are the editorial guidelines for the BP Blog? Do the authors have free rein over the content or dos the BP staff maintain final responsibility for the finished product?
Thanks @Mindy Jensen that clears things up! The author produces the content and BP does spelling and grammar checks, but BP doesn't fact check the substance of the blog post.
I've messaged you a few times and I really love BP (more specifically the money podcast/FIRE community aspect) and would like to contribute whenever I can. I have a pretty busy life right now so if there's any time requirements that might be an issue but if I can write when I do have the time that would be great. In the post you mentioned what's your expertise, well I see myself as more of an enthusiast at this point with the thought that since I'm an eternal student I'll never really be an expert in my own mind. I also don't have any writing or video that I can link to so hopefully having something done prior to this isn't required.
Thanks @Mindy Jensen that clears things up! The author produces the content and BP does spelling and grammar checks, but BP doesn't fact check the substance of the blog post.
We fact check where it is necessary. Most posts aren't necessary to fact check. Are you concerned about anything specifically?
