FHA...3.5 % down...owner-occupied duplex...???

I have a question with an FHA 3.5% down on a duplex. I plan to live in one side., so will be owner-occupied. Is it a requirement to have 3-6 months of reserves mortgage payments in the bank before loan will be approved. Or, is that just good practice?

I know it is good practice....just want to know if it is a requirement from the mortgage company?

Thanks
