Please enlighten me, anyone. When I search for properties, especially in the NYC area on realtor.com, I see the word "pending" beside the list price. Also the status shows "pending banks approval." What does this mean?

I do not want to believe that it means under contract since that shows for almost all the properties in the Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx area.

Any help is appreciated.
