Craigslist navigation - help

Good morning/afternoon,

Many here in BP speak of Craigslist so I decided to have a look. The site is very busy and doesn't seem to have an effective way of getting information. I was looking for 'homes for sale' and 'rentals'.

  • How do you manage to get this information? (I chose the city and under "housing" "real estate for sale") Filtering seems to be limited. There doesn't seem to be a way to separate 'land' from 'homes'.

I tried the basic input of the simplest terms but the pages that display are just filled with Ads that are not what I'm looking for. When I tried to find a "sort" button I didn't see one. After "filtering", the "list" view seems to show in order of date posted. I also chose 'thumb' view and it's still busy and hard to focus on what's on the page. There is no columnar view that would at least allow for sorting the specific columns for better clarity.

I searched here on BP using just "Craigslist" in the search and read through a lot of posts that didn't give me any answers.

I'm not a member of Craigslist either, is that the solution, to become a member and the pages somehow will be more discernable?

Thank you for any advice on how to properly navigate that site.

Hi Daria,

I don't think you need an account to look at craigslist, or even to post.

So, go to craigslist.com and find the one local to the area you want to look- you should be able to select your state and then the local area.  There should be a bunch of headings, and right in the middle at the top in bold is HOUSING.  Under that you will find apartments for rent and real estate for sale, a a bunch of other categories.  If you click on "Apartments/ Housing rentals" you should be able to narrow that list by choosing certain things on the left- # bedrooms, price range, etc.  If that doesn't narrow it down enough for you, try also including the specific city and/ or abbreviation for it in the search box.

I haven't searched for real estate for sale on there but assume it is a similar process.

Hope that helps.

Kelly

Thanks @Kelly N.

I did get that far and there was so much "busy-ness" on the pages it turned into a time consuming effort in the search.

Using the filter options helped some and I did find 2 properties but there should be some sort of "ordering by column or field" so those items jump immediately to focus.

Thank you for answering and have a great day.
