Buying and living in NYC

I know we all usually only talk about real estate investing - and this is similar - only different.

When it comes to buying a condo in NYC to live there: What is it like? I live over in Norway so I can't exactly hop in my car and do a road trip of the place (which would probably be hard considering the millions of people and the traffic... And the Atlantic ocean in between Norway and the U.S.).

But really; has anyone lived in Manhattan or Brooklyn? Call me crazy, but it looks exciting. Please share, or alternately give me a mindslap for even thinking about it.
