Any pointers on Corning New York area investing?

Question

I am considering investing in Corning NY and the surrounding areas.  I have minimal background on the area but have personal reasons to start investing there.

Initial reviews would suggest that a downtown rental (which appears to be a low cost but not poor area) can  provide good returns.

Anyone here from the area?  Any rei meetings for that area?  Rochester is the closest "big" town but that's too far away to have much local value I think.

Hi Brett:

Rochester has an excellent REI club but they are focused on the Rochester MSA (over 100 miles away).

Your best option for networking with Corning-Elmira area investors is the Binghamton REI group. We usually meet on the fourth Tuesday of the Month (third Tuesday of this month because of the holidays). The Binghamton group is new but growing quickly thanks to BP!

Reach out to @Christopher Stanis. He will add you to his email distribution list. I drive to the Binghamton meetings from Corning and would be glad to car pool with you.

There is a REIA in Binghamton that some folks from Corning and Elmira attend - see posts by @Christopher Stanis for meeting updates.  Or pm me for info, we are most active in Elmira and have done a few deals in Corning.

Sometimes they might. Once I met a guy who came all the way from Binghamton to attend a meeting.  I think he might be a member of Biggerpockets.

But the majority of attendees are from the Onondaga area.

It's a shame that upstate don't have more REIAs with all the investors and opportunities around here.

Thanks!  Does the Syracuse meeting have attendees familiar with the Corning / Elmira area?  It's 2 hours away so I'm not sure that would be the case.

There's a REIA in Syracuse.  I attended several meetings there. I'm from Cortland.
