Transfer Values on real estate sites

Hi, 

I am confused about the transfer values that I see on sites like realtytrac.com. Is that what the bank actually paid for the property at an auction? There are some properties where the transfer value is in the thousands range...Are banks really buying for that low at auctions? If so how is it done?
