To use a RE license or not?

Question

Hey all. I now have an AL real estate license that is currently held as inactive. I got it mainly for the purpose of educating myself. For those of you with RE licenses, what  advice do you have as far as your experience? I'm concerned about the broker fees even I sell or buy my  own property. How do you or did you choose a good broker to hang your license? Any general advice on this is highly welcomed. Thanks.

@Christine Mwai - I am fortunate enough to have a broker who lets me keep 100% commission. Its a local broker in the DMV area. I don't pursue my realtor license for other clients very actively, and primarily use it for my own investing needs. You need to find a better broker if you are paying lot of money in splits.

I got my license about 3 years ago mainly to help with investing goals. However I did a decent amount of traditional real estate as well.

So my quick thoughts: It all depends on what you want to focus on right? So there are all kinds of brokerages out there from no fees, to 50/50 commission splits and everything in between. Typically the brokerages that have the "worst" splits are the ones offering the most help and training. I would recommend this route for those trying to become a traditional real estate agent. The training is always worth it.

However if you are looking to just do some here and there and mainly use for investing purpose or misc things then i would go with a more lenient brokerage that will let you come and go and you will get a better split from.
