house listed with realtor

hi everyone. do not know if my last post was posted. I am new to the site and like the idea of investors helping each other. I found a couple houses that are listed with an agent and they are in a short sale position right now supposedly. the owner said he wished that I could have been 2 weeks earlier to help. the agent just has the property listed on the mls. and waiting for a buyer instead of trying to solve the problem. I told him that I could not do anything until it gets unlisted and he could not meantion he talked to me because if the agent called me my hands would be tied to help him. is this true? can I still help him.
