B1 zoning in a residential Home

Is there any concerns with a residential home on a B1 zoned property?  The property has two homes on 1 acre, which is used only as residential, with no business occupying unless the rental home is considered a business.  Can the township impose any authority because of the zoning?  If I wanted to build an extra home, a pool, or a huge shed, can I foresee any problems with any zoning laws in the future?  The home is in northern NJ if that makes any difference.
