Need remodeling ideas for split level gut renovation!

Hello,

Can anyone offer any advise on turning a split level into a modern colonial? We are looking for add around 1,000 square feet and also modernize the floor plan with a more open modern floor plan.

I have attached images along with survey and floorplan. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. If we can't accomplish our task we will not be purchasing the home.
