Cancelling Contract/EMD- Title Exam fee

Hello,

I just cancelled a contract, and the title company said that they would send me back my EMD - $150 "title exam fee." Is this normal? I never got so far as to order a title exam, and they never sent me any information on the title of the property. Can I negotiate this?

Thanks for your advice!

Ask them if the search was performed. If it was, they deserve to get paid for their time, though I agree with those above that if you've used this company before, they really should just waive the fee.

Btw, if they say they've performed the search, ask for a copy...
