Syndication Vs Long Distance Investing

I am wondering about the opinions of the bigger pockets community on this one. I recently had someone ask me, why do you feel someone should invest with you, as opposed to working with a company that will do the investing for you and handle all of the issues? I would like to hear your opinions on this topic. Do you feel that if you hire the right property manager, it would be more beneficial to invest in the properties yourself? Or do you think large syndication is the way to go. Obviously, both hold their own risk, however, I am curious to see how the BP community views this topic!

I think it’s really a personal preference. They also don’t need to be mutually exclusive. I started out doing my own deals but in hindsight I could have started passive to see how other people execute a value add project. I probably could have learned a lot from watching someone else do it first. Do you have the time and desire to do it yourself? If so, great, go for it! If you don’t have the time and desire then the passive route might make more sense. Or maybe you’re passive now and then do your own project in a year or so. I don’t think there is any right answer-just right for you now given your goals.
