Investor and Real Estate Agent - Tough to do both?

For those of you who are a licensed real estate agent AND investor (flipping, buy and hold) do you find yourself feeling like you’re serving two masters or has it worked out well for you?

No, they compliment each other.  As an agent, it gives me an advantage because I can truly help my investor clients invest. Most agents don't invest themselves and have no idea how to give correct investment advice.

Totally goes hand in hand.  Having a license opens up a lot of doors.  Saves a ton of money, and there is absolutely no down side to it.

I am a licensed REALTOR, a Broker with seven employees and four sales agents, a Property Manager with 340 rentals, and an investor with 20 rentals.

They all feed each other and I love it!

Also agreed with the majortiy here. My broker is investment friendly so i dont need to pay buy/sell fees on properties owned by me all the time, thats a big savings right there but also the fact that you can get lockbox codes/set up your appts, negotiate, and communicate on your own time without having to wait on someone elses schedule. Also access to your own MLS makes it easier to run comps.

I’m currently in class to get my RE license, I own an insurance agency, and I invest in single family rentals so i expect to sell more insurance, get access to MLS for my personal investing (that’s my main goal), and I hope to network for insurance referrals with other realtors, title agencies, mortgage and loan officers

@Shayla Collins Thank you for asking this question. Its been on my mind recently as I am studying to take the CA RE exam. Recently there was a blog post about the negatives of being an agent and an investor, personally I didn't think the article held water so I promptly ignored it. Still I am so happy to see these posts.
