Meth testing...is it necessary?

I just got my first deal under contract in Columbia, SC.  I’ve had basic inspections done already, I plan to flip the house and sell it.  It’s in pretty bad shape but I think it’ll bring a good profit.  I just recently saw another investor having his potential investment property in another state tested for meth and asbestos.  Should I have my house tested for either of these?

'70 will come with an asbestos pamphlet.  For my own piece of mind and that of my contractors, I would have an asbestos evaluation done if the rehab was likely to disturb any, IE tearing up floor tiles, siding or shingles, but I'd be weary of hiring anyone that also does asbestos remediation as they are likely to overstate/upsell.  Still wouldn't bother with the meth.

Asbestos testing really depends on the year of construction.  When was it built?  No need to do the testing unless you are tearing things up during a rehab in a home that is at risk for asbestos.

Regarding meth...same thing. Unless there is a strong reason to suspect it, I wouldn't bother.  The buyer's home inspector isn't going to test for meth, and the less you know the better, IE; you run the risk of having to disclose things that you would discover if you go digging.

Plus you never know if the meth that turns up in a test was from a previous tenant or your contractors! :P

Hi, @Lincoln Huefner I would check with your state and see if these tests are required, but it never hurts to test the homes.
