Investing in Indonesia?

Question

I visited some Indonesian islands about a year ago and I absolutely loved it, so much so that we reccomened our friends to go, they went and visited Bali, and also LOVED it. So i had this crazy idea, why not invest in Bali vacation houses?

Has anyone ever experienced RE investing in Indonesia or SouthEast Asia in General?

What would be some different laws, pros, cons to this?

Yes I bought Land on a Island named Rote, which is an upcoming Tourist Hotspot. Still cheap prices there because not so many people know about the island. But its just 1,3 hours away from Bali and all the Big Investors and the last 2 Presidents bought a lot of land there...

There're Indonesian living in the US that has an investment house in Bali so this idea is not new. The most RISK you have investing in Indonesia is actually Currency depreciation because it's always volatile. Also if you want to invest, invest in Bali only as it's very tourist-friendly. Regarding property law, the gov. is more open and less restricted to foreign investment. I remember few years ago the Bakrie group has hotel development in Bali has guaranteed income programs if you invest in of their hotel in Bali.A few weeks ago I saw a resort ground-up development in Lombok, island next to Bali, the return is 20% CoC. Seems pretty good as well.
