Appliances for Low end apartments

Bennett Schwartz
Posted

Hi BP,

I'm looking to purchase appliances for low end apartments and everyone says to get "renter grade". Any help on what constitutes as that? I get I shouldn't be paying a lot for them but how little should I be paying,

Thanks for any help!

In ever major city in America, there's at least one place, usually calling itself an "appliance warehouse," that sells used and slightly dinged-up new appliances with no warranty for discount prices. Low-end landlords call these stores "scratch-and-dents," and we are usually their main customers.

In our case, the appliances we equip our rentals with at a minimum are washer, dryer, refrigerator, range/cooker. Sometimes we have a dishwasher, but it depends on the rental. You should be able to find those four basic appliances for a combined minimum total of $1700 new, like-new for $1200 at a scratch-and-dent, and $900 used but fully-functional.
